School is a new stage in a child's life, the first step into adulthood. The child enters a different world with new rules. Familiar friends from kindergarten disappear, beloved caregivers are no longer around, and one has to adapt to new conditions. And sometimes, children have to change schools. And again, they have to integrate into a team with established relationships among peers.
Some manage to quickly get acquainted and make friends, while others, due to their character, have to observe for a long time and are afraid to approach other students. Even academic results directly depend on how comfortable the child feels in the team.
We asked child psychologists what to do if a student finds it difficult to make new friends initially. Here are some recommendations that will help adapt to school faster and reduce stress levels.
- Appearance. Clothes should not only be neat but also fashionable. Even at 6 years old, many children already have their own taste. They know what looks good in clothes and what doesn't. Listen to your child's opinion and buy strict but trendy clothes, otherwise classmates might "laugh at them." And that certainly doesn't contribute to finding a friend.
