How to Celebrate New Year's Unconventionally: Amazing Traditions from Around the World

Are you celebrating New Year's Eve at home again with a bowl of Olivier salad in front of the TV? It's a nice tradition, but there's so much interesting stuff in the world. We decided to do a little research on how to spend New Year's Eve in a fun and special way.

In search of original ideas, we looked at what unusual traditions and gifts exist among people in other countries around the world. It turns out there are customs we never even suspected. We're sharing the information we've gathered with you. Maybe it will inspire you with an idea of how to celebrate the New Year in an interesting way.

  1. In Italy, on New Year's Eve, residents wear something red. So it's quite possible to see a police officer with a red watch on his hand or a waiter in red socks. Well, Kite also has red accessories. For example, put on a red backpack and boldly go celebrate at the Christmas tree in your city's main square.
  2. In Estonia, it is customary to celebrate the New Year in a sauna to cleanse oneself of all troubles and worries. Of course, not everyone follows this tradition, but, admit it, it's wonderful. If you decide to arrange an Estonian New Year for yourself, take a thermos with aromatic tea to the sauna. It will restore your strength and invigorate you.
  3. In Spain, people have fun in their own way. Here there is a tradition of eating 1 grape with each chime of the clock. A total of 12 juicy berries are placed on a plate. And since many people celebrate the New Year outdoors, they take the main attribute of New Year's Eve with them. Well, we suggest having a Spanish New Year's celebration. To do this, take durable bamboo dishes, put a bunch of grapes in them, and head to the Christmas tree. It's better to take a few more berries. What if you meet a fun company and want to treat someone?
  4. Peruvian traditions may seem very strange to us. With the onset of night, girls take a twig in their hands and go looking for a fiancé. The young man who is offered to take the twig and agrees will be her fiancé. Boys, on the other hand, have fun a little differently. Whoever walks around their entire block with a suitcase (or a backpack) on New Year's Eve will go on the trip they dreamed of. So, where did you want to fly to?
  5. The traditions of Japan complete the top five unusual New Year's celebrations. In the Land of the Rising Sun, bells ring at midnight - 108 times. Each strike symbolizes a human vice. Generally, Japanese people believe there are only 6 vices: frivolity, foolishness, greed, anger, envy, and indecision. But each of these has 18 shades. So, in total, there are 108 strikes.

There's another interesting feature. For New Year's, it's customary for them to give loved ones and friends cards with an animal image – the symbol of the coming year. This year, it's a mouse. We suggest joining the tradition. Draw a magical mouse with your child using paint or pencils. We are sure it will bring good luck in the coming year.
